Hello Leif…..!!!
My name is Rocco from Italy…….
I have tryed a lot a software audio processor…..
For my the best was MBL,SONOS etc….. but now breakaway is the best….. I knew it before……
I have terratec aureon space…. and then calibration with oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer for modulation… i think to have a good result…..Honever i have seen that is possible having 75% modulation but more on left and right channel modulation…..
How can make it…..!!!
Is a good choice for good modulation ,,or breakaway is already good without any artefacts…????Thank you and sorry for my bad english…….
Rocco
September 7, 2009 at 1:59 pm #8265LeifKeymasterHi Rocco!
I think you’re talking about my composite clipper 🙂. It’s not part of Breakaway — it will be part of a hardware processor I’m developing.
However, with Breakaway Broadcast Processor (BBP) you do get perfect L/R peak control, so it can be as loud as any current hardware processor, even the ones that have a composite clipper, since traditional composite clippers do not squeeze extra L/R loudness in the way mine does. BBP is already a good choice, and at an incredibly low price.
Of course, once my hardware processor comes out, you might want to look at that too 🙂. It will be a little less expensive than the current top of the line processors (such as omnia 6 and 8500), but it certainly won’t be as cheap as Breakaway.
Best regards,

But in your opinion a good breakaway setting and calibration is better than optimod 8500 ..?? ((stupid question perhaps…!!!))..September 7, 2009 at 3:14 pm #8267LeifKeymasterRocco, YES. My god yes.
Try an A/B comparison with a properly calibrated BBP against a properly calibrated 8500, and you’ll know what I mean — it’s a night and day difference. Make sure to listen in a good system at reasonable volume (not cranked up too loud, as that alone masks a lot of the distortion you get from the 8500!).

September 7, 2009 at 3:26 pm #8268rocco123456MemberI’m thinking to make a wifi link to transmitter and using a wave format(using vlc)… and then put an industrial pc(with breakaway) at transmitter…. Is it a right quality (not overshooting) choice….for you..???
Thank you..
Rocco..September 7, 2009 at 4:05 pm #8269LeifKeymasterYes, putting the PC at the transmitter is definitely the best way to do it, so the STL doesn’t have to send processed audio.
Next on my list of software to write is software for doing a stable STL over the internet. Stay tuned 🙂.

September 7, 2009 at 8:05 pm #8270rocco123456MemberSimply….you are a genius…..!!!!
Honever… today i have tried breakeaway on air with amsterdam-new york preset,, and compared to other station….it have a very good loudness and no overshoot…but mid tone seems a bit little….. why do you not add..a band (user preset)limiter before final limiter..(like MBL)…so everyone can make "personal sound" and "personal eq sound"…..
Thank you…
Sorry if today i "streess" you….but i love fm processing…..
I’m a High Frequency Technician for Italian Broadcast Television… and i have at home my personal fm station….(5watt)…. In past i tried all (MBL-SONOS-Sound solution-StereoTolls)..but BREAKAWAY IS REALLY THE BEST because it make a very good baseband…(by tilt correction..etc….) is unique…!!!!!
I think that I’ll Buy mpxtool (very very good)…BreakAWAY…and rta………
I love your software……September 7, 2009 at 8:29 pm #8271BokiMember
Yes, putting the PC at the transmitter is definitely the best way to do it, so the STL doesn’t have to send processed audio.

///Leif
Hmm … that is a good news … i already have WiFi link @ 5.7GHz and STL software (asio support) .. and pc near transmitter. MPX cable 70cm long (found CFD200 a good one for this)
Main problem about this link is Software where it must have some important options, like auto start with windows, asio support etc… After one year of searching i found perfect one for this job.
With Two Juli@’s 70ms latency 😉
Hope Leif’s software will be good as this one and less expensive because this one is overpriced.September 7, 2009 at 8:46 pm #8272didacParticipant
Simply….you are a genius…..!!!!

Leif’s software are THE BEST over the world!
And Leif, one magnific engineer and person!
Good job Leif!
PD: I have all licenses software (BBP Live, BBP, BBP ASIO and mpxtool) and I recommended to all, are the best software!
September 7, 2009 at 10:53 pm #8273LeifKeymasterThanks, guys 🙂.
Rocco, I do plan to add parametric EQs to breakaway live and bbp. That should take care of it.
Here’s my STL design criterias:
* FIXED LATENCY. Buffer latency tends to drift (i.e. increase and increase) with other solutions. In mine, if you set it to 10 seconds, that’s what you’ll get.
Latency will be adjustable. If you have a very stable network you should be able to have under a second of delay.* Local back-up player (mp3/wav/flac) if the link goes down.
* PCM and OGG Vorbis format at the very least (since they’re free to use). Mpeg-1 layer 2 and aacPlus if i can work out the licensing — no promises there. I’ll pass on MP3 — it’s not very well suited for an STL, and it’s not free.
I haven’t started on the project yet, but it’s very high up on my list, since it gets breakaway processing a foot in the door at a few stations. 🙂

Why not use FLAC? There’s already a standardized way to wrap it in an Ogg container (aka OggFLAC) and even though it’s VBR I don’t see why it can’t fit into your fixed latency picture.
But I’m not saying don’t include Vorbis too. For lower bitrates (like 300-400 kbps) it beats layer-2, at least in audio quality, by a long shot. 🙂

Studio Transmitter Link. That’s how radio and television stations get content to a remote transmitter site. Could be a microwave relay or a fiber line etc.September 8, 2009 at 12:08 pm #8277sneradioMember
Next on my list of software to write is software for doing a stable STL over the internet. More good news from this project 🙂 i special support back-up player. Good ideas from Leif as always.
btw, about send format .. curretly we use PCM wav 48kHz stereo. That is about 1,6Mbits UDP Traffic thru our WiFi 5GHz 6km link.Keep up the good work!
