    Atomix ? 😯

Basically yes, although it has evolved a bit since AtomixMP3 🙂.

Breakaway DJ is an audio processor for DJs, low latency, with an ASIO driver to directly interface with DJ software, such as VirtualDJ, Traktor, or whatever you like. Two separate cores so that you can process either Deck A/Deck B separately, or Master/Cue separately, for the ridiculously low price of $99 🙂.

I’m aiming for it to be cpu-efficient enough to run together with DJ software even on a standard netbook (Atom CPU).

It’s not done yet (I started a week ago) but it’s running now, the ASIO driver is working — it should be downhill coasting from here. (Yea right, like that ever happens…)

    Man, you weren’t kidding.

I haven’t played with VirtualDJ much at all before. Now that I’m testing it with Breakaway DJ (and thus an oscilloscope) hooked up, guess what I found:

With the bass control in VirtualDJ turned all the way up, even though I’ve turned the deck gain and master gain down:

I mean, come on guys, that’s just inexcusable.

Wow, I can’t wait. I’ve been dying for a processor like this since I first tried BAE.

Just a thought, how about upping the price to $149 and including 2 mono mic processing channels. It would be great to have that extra functionality for MCs or karaoke stars. Then you could market it as Breakaway DJ/KJ!

Processing on mics has to be handled very carefully and usually needs to be gated to prevent severe feedback. That said, the digital delay intreoduced by software such as this may well remove acoustic feedback as there will be a few ms delay but then may also be distracting to the performer, again, this is a difficult one to get right in a live environment.

Yeah.. It would be nice to have a Pro version with more channels in the future, but for now I’ll focus on two channels. Gotta start somewhere 🙂.

Besides, do DJs really have audio interfaces that have mic preamps with separate channels, so that the audio could be software-processed before going into the mic input on the mixer?

    First public alpha release!

Let me know what you think 🙂.

Please note that this is designed for actual DJing with a large PA system, not broadcasting, and this is reflected in the presets. I’ve kept only a few presets — those that showed promise for large sound systems — and even then they are much more open and dynamic than their Broadcast cousins. Plutonium in Breakaway DJ is not as aggressive as Plutonium in the other products 🙂.

Also, I don’t have a new jingle yet, so it has the demo jingle from Breakaway Live. However, the price of Breakaway DJ will be $99.

    Best,

Maybe I’m an anomaly, but I have a collection of audio cards. Some of them include several EchoAudio Mona soundcards (it’s an older rackmount card that has 4 mic input channels), a Mackie d.4 pro mixer (it has 2 mic channel inputs that route via Firewire to a computer) and a few M-Audio FastTrack Pro cards (they have 2 mic input channels).

I was thinking you might be able to use the same technology as a 5.1 theater system. 2 stereo channels for DJ audio processing and 2 mono channels for mic processing, 6 channels total.

I am going to install the Breakaway DJ as soon as possible, like I’ve said it’s something I’ve been waiting for. Anything more is just gravy.

p.s. I do recall you had a special version running a karaoke system near where you lived. How has it performed since you installed it?
