After months and months of loudness and clearness mesurments with dificult recordings (songs) on my FM radio station , i ve found the key!! the key to loudness and clearness!!
check it out , but please hear more than 10 minutes to be sure that u listen at least 1 new song .the greek music is the most dificult music for equalization and broadcasting with maximum loudness..🙂

b) the stream is 128 kbps WMA ( the WMA stream has some overshoots becuse of the codec, the FM has no overshoots)Not bad, Stavros!
There’s not much treble though — I wonder where it’s going, considering it’s a 50us country. Are you using New York perhaps? 🙂
I heard some bass distortion, once in a while, but it might as well have been present on the CD, and I know what an O**** processor would sound like if pushed like this — the result would not have been pretty. The voices actually sound OK. Might want to lower the bass a bit though — if the bass goes full-scale like it does now, there’s no room for anything else, and distortion results.
Check the waveform with an oscilloscope, for example regular Breakaway Audio Enhancer. You can see clearly that the bass is taking too much space, leaving no room for anything else. I also hear it, of course, just pointing out how you can see it if you don’t hear it 🙂.
It’s really not bad though. I can tell that you’re really close to the sound you’re looking for, and that’s very encouraging! All it would take to clean up the audio is 1dB less of deep bass, and that’s basically an inaudible change, but it would make a big difference in the amount of distortion.
I’m also curious what settings you use, of course 🙂.
By the way, are you feeding the encoder directly from BBP L/R output, or from a tuner?

There is a song "Blank & Jones with Delerium – Fallen".
It’s impossible to keep a good loudness and output volume without distrotion at the low-low mid freq in the intro…
The distrotion comes from BBP even with 12db attenuator and also with the output at -5db.
And, if you add more "power" to the BBP…more distrotion at the bass 😥 only at this song.
The bass, mid-bass isn’t so "clear" if you listen the track without BBP but with BBP the bass is on distrotion.I send the track (half) to check and try if you can.

Holy crap, that’s not good. If I hadn’t just heard that come out of my own BBP, I would have sworn it was an Orban. Damn! This is going to take me a while, that’s a HARD one.

1) yes, this stream at the top of this topic is from Rythmos 104,5 at Heraklion City in Crete island – Greece.
i have many listeners from Netherlands and Germany 🙂) 10% ( 80%+ Greece)
2) this stream has de-emfasis from breakaway. ( at the FM recievers the treble are 100% present but at the stream …using de-emfasis (for flat full stream modulation) from breakaway causes that big loss., maiby the low treble ( at the stream) are becuse of the "simplecast encoder (WMA) "
3) Leif, i use Rustonium preset and i think it’s the most "intelligent" preset eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever!
( but with different settings and some leif’s dsp plugins..all linear!! )You should listen to the FM modulation at 104,5 , it’s stuck at 72 KHz withour MPX clipping !! and it sounds loudest that all the other stations. even to those who modulate at 140 , 150 KHz modulation!!
can u imagine ? that’s breakaway power! i wish i could test leif’s mpx clipper some day!
My stations modulation power is at 9 dbr without MPX clipping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( all the others are from 2 to 5 )wow! george you use a lot of preemfasis, ….in my opinion preemfasis of 50 and 75 should be used only at FM broadcast, NOT AT STREAMING, i know it’s impressive at small speakers and ..loud , but you lose your spectrum balance, can u imagine what would happen to the listeners who use equalizers? ( your music is excellent for relaxing..!!)

I think that george found the ONLY song that causes distortion to your algorythm!!
Please please please leif, don’t fix your code if that is gonna make ..all the other songs sound quiet . ( if it’s only one song …don’t break all the other…🙂Don’t worry, I won’t break the algorithm to fix a single song, I’ll only make changes that improve the average quality of the algorithm. 🙂
Ah, Rustonium. I need to test that preset more, perhaps the bass clipper threshold needs to come down a bit. I didn’t make any modifications from the one Jesse sent me, and I didn’t test it all that thoroughly myself.
Camclone, could you PM me the exact settings and plug-ins you’re using so I can recreate the chain and see if I can do something about the distortion without losing loudness?

i have put breakaway on it’s limits that’s normal to have a 2, or 3% distortion.

One solution is to remove it but me and our listener ask for this.

So I deside to go somewhere else for vacations but these also gone for 2009 😥For streaming I use 15?s pre-emphasis as Leif suggest.
And my favorite preset, Zenith.
I think it’s the best one for this type of music as Chill,Lounge,Downtempos but even for electronic music.Take Care,

the same happens when hearing this song on windows media player with WOW effect on.
maiby this has to do with …surround ? stereo enhancing /de-enhancing ??The same happent also without any stereo enhancing/stereo expander,with all plugins disabled or not and
with any level combination between BBP input/Output.If you add more "power" from BBP settings you’ll get more distrotion…. Leif? 🙄
With "power" under and close to 50 I think that I can hear it…without screaming! 😆Good night to all of you!
