I’ve downloaded Breakaway live in order to use it for webcasting. I’m running a HP XW4100 (P4 3,2 and 1Gb memory) with Windows XP Pro (US) SP3 and the latest updates installed. I followed this ‘manual’ so I’ve also installed VS2005 SP1. But when hitting ‘reload’ it just confirms that DSP is ok, but edcast doesn’t launch… Maybe that’s not surprising because several of the mentioned files I could not find in the Winamp directory? I mean these files: bass.dll, libfaac.dll, libflac.dll, ogg.dll, pthreadvse.dll, vorbis.dll, some of them (like bass.dll) are however installed in the Edcast directory.
Edcast is currently installed in a subdirectory I called Plugins within the Breakaway Live directory.
I also installed edcast as a plugin for Winamp. In Winamp however it does launch… 🙄July 15, 2010 at 12:44 pm #11046AnonymousGuestNobody? 😥
July 16, 2010 at 1:02 pm #11047JesseGMemberit works here, make sure you run the actual installer for edcast pointed at your breakaway folder…
also might want to install all of the latest VC++ runtimes from microsoft, to make sure it’s not one of those.

[/quote]Looks like you missed this installation instruction from the very first post…
Do not add "plugins" or anything else — it needs to be Breakaway’s own folder, not a sub-folder.
This means you must install edcast directly into the Breakaway Live folder, don’t use any subfolders like the "Plugins" folder you created.

I think you are right, how could I have missed that… 😳
Thank you so much for noticing, I will do a re-install the right way and post the result.
Thankx!July 17, 2010 at 9:12 am #11050AnonymousGuestOK, we’re one step further 😉
When asking for a reload I got the message that msvcr90.dll was missing. So I downloaded that sucker and put it in the systems directory. That seems to have done the job but now I get this:I did install the the VS2005 SP1 redist package as mentioned…
July 17, 2010 at 3:24 pm #11051JesseGMemberputting the file in your system directory isn’t the same as installing it. first off there’s lots of registry settings it puts in, secondly it’s not supposed to be directly in the system folder anyways. it’s part of Windows new localization features for libraries called "Side By Side" (aka SxS) so…
you need to actually run the installer for the "end user runtime" 😉
if you go to microsoft.com/downloads and search for "end user runtime" you’ll see them all listed mostly under "visual studio" or "vc++"
version 10 is aka Visual Studio 2010
version 9 is aka Visual Studio 2008 😉
version 8 is aka Visual Studio 2005
version 7 is aka Visual Studio 2003
version 6 and below corresponds with the version numbers of Visual Studio. But you will find very very little that’s compiled with anything under version 6 since a long time ago.cheers
July 17, 2010 at 4:41 pm #11052AnonymousGuestBut shouldn’t the VS2005 sp1 package have taken care of that?
I assumed that that’s why it is mentioned in the MP3 tutorial…Which version should I install to fix this?

I’m not sure. It’s possible that EdCast updated what it’s being compiled with.
And speaking of service packs, I guess I did leave out a few versions above. Such as VS2005 SP1 is v8.1, and 2008 SP1 is v9.1
July 17, 2010 at 6:13 pm #11054AnonymousGuestI freshly installed another PC today. Again with XPPro, SP3. Let’s see if this is gonna work. 🙄
Is there a specific order in which components should be installed?July 17, 2010 at 8:26 pm #11055AnonymousGuestOK, up and running 🙂
There are however some things mentioned in the ‘how to stream MP3tutorial’ that might no longer correct due to a newer Winamp version? The way I was able to install Edcast and get it working as a plugin is like this:01. Install BA Live.
02. Instal the linked VS2005 sp1 redistributable package.
03. Install Edcast in the BA live directory.
04. MANUALLY move dsp_edcast.dll from the pluginfolder (in the BA Live directory) to the BA Live directory.
05. download an OLD version of winamp from here: http://www.oldversion.com/Winamp.html (I used 5.04) and install.
ONLY THEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIND THE MENTIONED FILES THAT SHOULD BE COPIED TO THE BA Live DIRECTORY!!!
06. Copy the files to the BA Live directory (nscrt.dll, bass.dll, libfaac.dll, libflac.dll, ogg.dll, pthreadvse.dll). I couldn’t find vorbis.dll, but you don’t need it if you don’t want to use Vorbis.
07. Copy enc_aacplus.dll from the Winamp Plugins directory to the BA Live directory.
08. Place lame_enc.dll in the BA Live directory (don’t forget to download).
09. In Breakaway, press Settings.
10. Under "Encoder Plug-ins", press Edit.
11. Enable one of the slots. Press Browse, and go to C:Program FilesBreakawayBroadcastdsp_edcast.dll
12. Press Reload. Eureka! EdCast pops up!This did it for me, hope it helps!
July 18, 2010 at 10:21 am #11056Dr.JMemberThanks for sharing your success story. Hopefully it helps others embarking on the same path.
