    Hello,
I’m using Breakaway live in my web radio about 6 months. My current version is 0.90.96. I’m spending lot of hours a day to achieve the best sound I can. Sometimes I’m trying different presets, let them for a while, but finally I return to Plutonium. I like this preset and I think it is the best for my station format (Top 40/ Dance). All my mp3’s are 320 kbps and most of my files are FLAC ripped from Audio CDs.
I’m using Pipeline from my playout to Breakaway Input, Buffer Size 512, Buffer Count 8, Sample Rate 44100 and Output to my soundcard, Buffer Size 512, Buffer Count 8, Sample Rate 44100. SRC is enabled. I’m using Core 1 Speakers, Core 2-4 Broadcast.
For streaming I’m using Edcast. My stream is @ 192 kbps.
I’m trying different settings on plutonium preset. Some songs sound excellent, but others not…
I’m reading here lot of people to be excited about Breakaway. Did I miss something with my config or I am excess?
    My stream is http://listen.athensvirus.com/all.pls

    Thanks a lot.

Wow, I’m hearing some really weird distortion and it’s almost like there’s some signal that’s bleeding into the sound too or something. It sounds like something in a frying pan. There’s also clipping, but that could be in the original…

Next song, not hearing the clipping distortion or bleed.

A few songs later, hearing a lot more of that crunchy frying pan clipping, but no bleed.

Something definitely doesn’t have enough headroom. What automation are you using? Are you running the input into EdCast at about -1.0dB peaks to leave a little headroom for the codecs decoding?

    Hello JesseG,
I’m using RadioDJ Radio automation. We talk about this automation to another thread.

Yep, I do remember. Is this the same version, or one that fixes the problem from the other topic?

Ok, had a few hours to really get the feel of the app. Very cool so far, and shows potential to become one of the best out there, not too far off.

That being said… the mp3s are decoded at full scale, so there’s no headroom to allow for the lack of peak control, and hence mp3s will clip. Also… during cross-fades even with lossless formats, you can get clipping.

I didn’t check to see if the Winamp DSP stack is compiled against the 24/32 bit DSP abilities of the new SDK, since I don’t know that I have any Winamp plugins off hand that use that. I probably could check, but yeah.

Other than that maybe/not being a workable option…

So my recommendation either way is to the developer. To decode mp3 with some decent headroom, or if the audio path is floating point… to allow for the final output to be turned down some in a way that can be used to avoid any clipping at the final outputs.

    Thank you very much!
So, can make it more clear?
    – Is it the reason for weird distortion and bleeding into the sound?
    – Can I do something to fix it by myself?

    Regards

    Hi,
    I have suggestion!

Why you don’t start to find problem by eliminate things you r using.

    – remove only processor, so go from Player directly to stream
    – change only player (put winamp or any other)
    – change only streaming codec (if lame – try 3.98.4 or good one from Jesse)
    – replace only Pipeline with VAC

i guess in one moment you’ll find what is not good.

Basiclly i don’t like Plutonium! To much bass desecrate/clipping especially when you play modern house/disco music with alredy high and good bass/lows. Highs are loud too. Bass you can set lower but with highs you can’t do nothing.

Another idea is to "ask" what preset and configuration is using "RawFM" – if someone knows.
