Can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE test the ESI Julia soundcard for spectral efficiency and tell us the values for TILT and COEFF settings for BREAKAWAY MPX output ? ( settings for soundcard output made mesuring the signal from the soundcard output NOT FROM HIS STL configuration.. )
I found that when i play STEREO i have reduced spectral efficiency using this card.
can someone mesure this plzz ???

i was trying to explain " flatness " to all ..192 KHz signal..So,

ahh… frequency response. the bass tilt should have very little effect on the stereo separation – essentially none on 99.99% of all songs.what you might need to calibrate is the parametric EQ/s in the Calibration window. since I haven’t heard of anyone else having this problem… i can’t advise that you use any settings anyone else is using. and even so, you really need to calibrate your own specific card itself to confirm to yourself that the output actually is flat.
have you tried checking the response between mono & stereo on a scope?
Ohhh my goooooOoOooodnessss. THE CAUSE was a bad MPX cable 🙂
Now everything is OK, the overshoots are only 2 KHz max 🙂 ( from soundcard-console-bb-stl-stl-exciter )
so, the tilt values are nt needed for me.thankx!
ESI Juli@ is Tilt 7 if I remember correctly.
I finally have a Juli@ now but I don’t have a computer to try it on here (laptop) — will plug it in when I get home in a week or so. Still in the states 🙂.

I hope when Leif returns back home to make a " hard test " of this card becuse many of us here have bought this card .For me , now everything is ok , it’s just 4 KHz overshoots 🙂 …without the tilt edited settings.
I am gonna buy an oscillator.. to make it 0 KHz overshoots 🙂
Please Leif, remember test this card, more people (I’m too) have this card, but doesn’t have an oscilloscope, then I need your test for configure this card for the best sound!

I havent had a Juli@ yet but the similar components are used on the output of a Maya, which I have done several of, the tilt on these is usually 3.
Remeber however that the tilt from one Juli@ may not be the same as the tilt on another supposedly identical one, there are tolerances in component values and these can make a difference. Also remember that when measuring the tilt, it should be done with the transmitter connected in parallel, this can make a huge difference, I have had one computer (with an onboard ALC888s codec) on 3 different transmitters and the tilt values ranged from 24 to 47 depending upon which TX was connected.
Having someone else measure the tilt on a soundcard is no use, yoou need to set it up on your own card and with your own TX connected (and powered up) otherwise, the measurement is void.
If a scope is not possible, the BBCal tool is a good alternative and just requires $2 worth of parts to work and any (even a 48khz) soundcard to calibrate the tilt. You however cannot make spectral linearity checks by this method as the spectral linearity of the card being used for the measurements would be unknown itself.Hope this helps.

Ah sweet, you have one of the Quad prototypes. Can we get a few pics of Breakaway output on it? There was a few reasons I didn’t get one of the prototypes, and even though I’m getting one of the "1.0" units when they come out, I’m still jealous. 🙂 I just want a few pics to drool over.I have 4 Juli@ cards, all modifed per the instructions elsewhere on this site.
I’m running a tilt setting of 10 on all 3 of them, so I guess you can expect some consistency from these things.

@RodeoJack, you don’t need to mod Juli@ cards, the mod shown in the site is specificaly for the M-Audio Audiophile 192 card as it had a particularly bad output and at the time (3+ years ago) this was one of the few affordable quality cards with a 192Khz DAC. Nowadays there are many cards with 192Khz DACs and the ESI range are very good, well priced cards.
