I am experiencing an issue since upgrading to the latest version of Live, where I am getting a crackling distortion mixed in with my stream. It sounds like a buffer type distortion, if that makes any sense. What settings in the I/O section could possibly be the cause, and should they somehow be matched to my source files or stream sampling freq.? I’m thinking that maybe there is some conversion going on which is working the CPU really hard, or maybe I just need to adjust the buffers?
I don’t want to just start changing things to see what they do, as the problem is not horribly bad, and my stream is simply a hobby stream, but the crackling is getting annoying(I listen at work a lot), and I’d like to determine what I should try to adjust. I never had this issue in the previous version, so I’m a bit baffled by this.
I am streaming 44.1 MP3 files…nothing fancy…and I’m not using a soundcard, just using the pipeline to get the audio into Breakaway from OTS Turntables.Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!
July 25, 2009 at 2:10 am #7814sgeirkMemberIs the crackling on peaks in the music? What’s your system CPU/processor usage? Is breakaway changing colors (turning red) on instantaneous peaks? Might be as simple as installing the -6 attenuator in breakaway (free plugin).

August 5, 2009 at 4:07 pm #7816RipleeMemberHey guys…thanks for your replies. Been on vacation…thus the reason for no response from me! 😀
I have tried everything under the sun it seems, yet I still get an annoying crackling sound. It does appear to be on peaks only…although I don’t understand why this is happening now, when it never happened before. I could try the attenuator plug-in, which, like I said, I never needed before. As I am only streaming for the interent, I don’t use a soundcard, and have it disabled. I only use the pipeline to route the sound. I think I recall something about the pipeline being updated in the new version of Live, so I’m sorta thinking maybe something has changed there. I messed around with the buffer setting a bit, but it didn’t seem to have any positive affect. I also switched back from gigabit to a 100mb network connection, as this was something I had changed recently also, but the problem still exists so I assume that wasn’t the cause. I know the problem began after I upgraded to the first new build of Live about a month ago or so, but I am such a fan of this software, and have so much respect for Leif’s work, that I am extremely hesitant to suggest the issue might be with Live! 😕
I defragged my drive, re-ripped some cd’s, and every other thing I could think of at the computer level which might have negative impact, yet no change. 🙁I think the next step for me is to remove the current version I am running, and revert back to the previous one and see what happens.
Ideas? 💡
August 5, 2009 at 4:13 pm #7817AnonymousGuestHi Riplee, any way to record it and post it on a server somewhere?
August 5, 2009 at 8:18 pm #7818RipleeMemberI can’t for the life of me, find the attenuation plug-ins!
Where are the plug-ins located? 😕August 5, 2009 at 8:22 pm #7819Conor HylandMemberHi Riplee,

The 2db attenuator appears to have done the trick! I spent quite a bit of time tweaking things last night, and I am very happy right now!
Thanks to all who helped!August 7, 2009 at 7:37 am #7822LeifKeymasterThanks, guys! I never would have figured this one out, I was thinking in a completely different direction.

August 9, 2009 at 4:54 am #7823sgeirkMemberFor the record, I came across a similar issue where it seemed that Live was "clipping" unnecessarily. But as it turned out…I believe the emu0404 card was "routed" incorrectly and was feeding back in.
August 9, 2009 at 10:58 am #7824MIX724MemberLEIF,
we are using BBP in de onair chain after 24 hour the output signal is changing in an unbalanced sound.
When we open the I/O config en close it without any changing the output is ok again
we’re using juli@ and a onboard HD soundcart
Juli@ for 192 input and output and the onboard for L/R output (Studio)
Should we use for input an another soundcard?

Mark
August 9, 2009 at 1:02 pm #7825LeifKeymasterHi Mark!
Perhaps you have discovered a bug! Which version number are you using? (Check the About box).
Best,
///LeifAugust 9, 2009 at 2:45 pm #7826MIX724MemberI have tryed both versions
bbp 80
bbp 77both have this same problem, i think the input get messedup.
Stereo enhancer gives a mono signal no enhancing.
It happens every 24 hour.Gr,
Mark
August 9, 2009 at 3:40 pm #7827LeifKeymasterReally strange! I can’t imagine what would be causing that.
Lots of people are using Juli@ cards and I’ve never heard of such a problem.
Is it the same problem on both outputs, or just the on-air output?
