when do you think the new box is ready for home use en what is the price
thank you verry muchJuly 9, 2009 at 2:42 am #7737LeifKeymasterThe box will hopefully be ready this year, and it will be too expensive for home use.
It will be a bit cheaper than existing high-end processors, but not by too much — we’re aiming for about $8000. There’s really no reason for it to be extremely inexpensive — that niche is already filled by BBP and BBP ASIO 🙂.

July 9, 2009 at 8:18 am #7738DecibelMemberHi Leif,
What makes this box so special to price it to 8000 dollars?
What is in it?I expected a box with hardware and BBP inside. Wrong expectation?
Herman.
July 9, 2009 at 8:39 am #7739LeifKeymasterHi Herman!
It will not be a box with Breakaway inside! That, you can build yourself for a few hundred dollars. 🙂
It will be a full featured FM processor, competing with the flagships of other manufacturers, but with many more features and MUCH better sound.
Algorithmically it will have some parts in common with Breakaway, but it will have full control, all bells and whistles, and even more importantly it will have my previously unreleased Composite Clipper which yields 150% peaks in 100% modulation — something no other composite clipper is capable of.
You can listen and verify this yourself — download the Breakaway clips from the Dutch soundprocessing freakdag from http://www.mpxtool.com and analyze them. The program used there was BBP, but with the composite clipper back-end instead of the normal clipper back-end.
Don’t worry, I’ll make it more than worth the money for those who can afford it.
For those who can’t, BBP and BBP ASIO aren’t going anywhere! They will be around, and continue to receive improvements and upgrades.
Best,
///LeifJuly 9, 2009 at 11:01 am #7740AnonymousGuestHello Leif,
Awh I expected a soundcard or something for BBP, like Orban has…
Could you maybe think about that? I’m very interested in it! And might buy one 😀
For the people(like me 😉) who can’t afford the 8000 dollar cost device?
Because I would like to have a full control version of breakaway… I understand you because of the cracking guys you won’t make a version with full control and your mpx clipper ans some things more… what about a full control version of breakaway which runs only on a custom soundcard? So tilt will not being required anymore? —> like Orban 1100.Would make my day 😀
July 9, 2009 at 11:20 am #7741LeifKeymasterSDF, it’s not impossible. We’re designing custom hardware for the box anyway, so it could be feasible to sell it separately as well.

The 1100 doesn’t do clipping, and it’s not an FM processor, so you don’t need that level of peak control… which is why you don’t need to worry about any tilt.
But for tight peak control, tilt can always be an issue in some way. If it doesn’t come from your DAC, then it could come from somewhere else, and then Breakaway’s tilt features come in mighty handy.
