Hello there to all moderators and users of BA,
My question is regarding rebooting our BA PC without DEAD AIR. We want to update our windows 10 installation with the minimum dead air time.
We want to update our windows 10 installation because it may fix our crashing BA problem that is covered in another topic here: https://www.forumclaessonedwards.com/forum/index.php?topic=5731.msg19975#msg19975.
The problem is that we don't know how long this update will take (Microsoft magic), so we need an alternative solution to be able to play from another terminal maybe for 1 hour (I hope). I am thinking to copy all BA configuration and use a RIAL BA one another PC.
Questions:
1. Is this the best way?
2. Is this possible?
3. Are there any instructions about transferring config files to a new BA installation and run it?Please use my numbering when replying so it would be easy.

You might get away with using a trial version, but you'd run into the audible reminders that this is trial software. Unless you had some other processing software, like StereoTool loaded on the other PC?

April 15, 2019 at 9:37 pm #15206MilkyKeymasterIn my experience, there can be a delay of up to an hour between nags, so, if the update wasn't that long, you might get lucky. Even if you do get the nag, it is not that bad. It extols the virtues of Breakaway, but sounds a bit like a radio commercial. Most people wouldn't notice to be honest.
If you had both your playout PCs going to a mixer, it would be a simple matter to cross fade between the two so that the backup PC was playing whilst you update Win10. Once it comes back online, you can cross fade back the other way, or wait until the end of a track and start the upgraded PC.
The config files can be backed up (there is an option within BA1) and moved to the other PC as a complete folder. It is also possible to include the config address in the command line (ini_folder=c:/blah) so you can have it stored almost anywhere that is accessible to the PC.
That's exactly my setup: 2 replicated PCs on my mixer are routed to BA PC.
With an addition of an extra automation program on the BA PC, that is rebroadcasting (through BA pipeline and PT core) to the streaming encoder (replacing program elements on streaming & acts as 3rd internet only fail-safe so even if our FM is dead, our internet will be up, and not cause massive tune-outs -just like those you witnessed on my other post-).
So my main problem is that i want to update the BA PC, witch as you can see, will cause a complete SILENCE everywhere (it's the heart of the station sound wise).

Correct
I recommend downloading the trial on another pc and timing it between the first two nags after launch a few times. Remember it needs to be processing audio for the internal timer to start counting, that way it doesn't interrupt silence.
This is the exact reason that people BUY backup audio processors for their radio stations. You're recommending that they find a way to steal one of the two processors they would need to do this. Thanks buddy. But yeah, it won't work anyways. 😉
Technically there's no way to do this is you're updating the final component before the listeners. Luckily BreakawayOne is NOT the last component. The streaming server is. So really what should be done is for there to be some backup audio that plays on the server if the source is lost/dropped.
I recommend checking out something like this

if you want some real power/features to do the things you want to with your streams, from the server side, when you need to do things like update BreakawayOne, or if your internet connection/s go down, etc.May 9, 2019 at 4:30 pm #15210MrKloroxParticipant

Oof, My bad guys. I was thinking from a broke-ass home user standpoint, and not from a funded professional setup. By God people should buy the software if they can afford it.
