    Hello,

We used Windows 2000 Pro SP4 when BBP first launched as recommended and then many years later we moved onto Windows 7 Pro x64 as BBP was developed.

We have been using BBO for the past 10 months without any issues on the same OS 'Windows 7 Pro x64'.

    Just got a few questions:

    – Is it worth upgrading the OS to Windows 10 Pro x64?

    – Are their any benefits of upgrading the OS for future support?

    – Will Windows 7 eventually stop being supported? (Is their a deadline for this in the pipeline).

We are quite happy to stick with our current setup, but as with all engineers that needs to keep stations on air 24/7, I'm just attempting to future proof everything and I'm unsure whether these sorts of questions have been asked before, and apologies if they have.

    Thank you in advance.

    Kind regards,
    Wayne

End of extended support for Windows 7 is January 2020. http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/windows-7/windows-7-support-end-11364081315419
The biggest frustration with Windows 10 is the difficulty folks have with disabling automatic updates/reboots. I understand there are ways to address this depending on the version (Home vs. Pro vs. Enterprise) you run. If you don't connect it to the internet, that's a non-issue.

Thanks for the information on Windows 7 support. So it's still got a 'couple' of years yet before it's condemned!

With regards to Windows 10. We use Windows 10 Pro x64 for our studio playout systems and workstations and it works remarkebly well. It will quite happily sit for a few weeks without needing a reboot as long as you've set it up so it doesn't restart without asking. Then once a week we do maintainence and we just swap sustain to another studio and then check for updates and restart everything running Windows 10. It's usually done through the night at the weekend as we have a live DJ set so the workstations arn't in use at that time. Also keeps everything a bit more reliable and quicker by restarting everything once a week too we found  🙂
