Hi all, I am transitioning from Breakaway Broadcast over to BreakawayOne. I used to record the output of Breakaway Broadcast to an mp3, for my mp3 player, using the Edcast DSP and the "save archive of stream" option checked. My setup was playout software –> Breakaway Broadcast –> Edcast DSP connecting to local Shoutcast server. I am looking to do something similar with BreakawayOne.

With BreakawayOne not having DSP support, I can think of two options to record the output:

    1) I could use Edcast standalone. I'm no audio expert so this question is probably silly, but isn't going from a plugin like the Edcast DSP that sits on the end of Breakaway to record audio, to Edcast standalone which in itself is a Windows program to record audio, risking a degration in quality?

    2) I could use the command line option in BreakawayOne's encoder section by using a command to tell lame to save the output as an mp3. Months ago I tried to do this but I didn't have much luck, I don't even remember the lame command I used. I just remember it would repeatedly connect and disconnect. Anyone know a good command to use?

    Thanks for the help!

You would be best off trying to setup realtime recording to FLAC. You're going to lose more audio quality than anywhere else, by far, when encoding to mp3. Even if you're using the latest Lame at 320 with -q 0 etc…

Not all mp3 players support FLAC, even with alternate firmware (some do this way though, such as with RockBox).

There's multiple free software to record FLAC in realtime I think. Unfortunately not with the benefit of adaptive noise optimization though. Not fully lossless, but you can't hear it and it really does only even effect the samples that are too quiet to actually hear. Literally no sample you can even potentially hear is ever even touched at all with it, which is amazing. There's always lossyFLAC/lossyWAV. Monkey's Audio has an encoder that does this "hybrid mode" now, and it's pretty good compression at around 400kb/s for 44kHz stereo.

You could setup BaOne to have an HD path output to a virtual soundcard that you want to just record from, and then listen to it where-ever you want on an actual soundcard output with your common output.

I have a new free tool that can do exactly this. It requires the management package in BaOne, other than that it's completely free.

    NfAudioTool

A robust and reliable tool to connect to any NF-based unit (whether Omnia.9, Linear Acoustic AERO, or Breakaway One) the exact same way NfRemote does, and stream audio.

The received audio can be sent to local sound cards, sent over livewire, and written to files in FLAC, Wave or MP3 format.
Thus, it is a convenient way to do mandatory logging, pull audio from an Omnia.9 HD processor and feed the Exporter (without using up a physical output), feed a pair of speakers in the lobby, etc.
