which of the products offered would be the best at enhancing live voice? I just want to experiment with raw vocal audio from a condenser microphone. Can breakaway audio enhancer do this or is breakaway live better suited ?

All of the legacy Breakaway products, besides Audio Enhancer, are no longer supported. You will want to check out BreakawayOne

    http://www.breakawayone.com/

It has a trial mode for everything. Try before buy. 🙂

You'll need a soundcard/audio-interface with drivers that support ASIO*. You need this so that the latency, the time between input and output, will be lower than what you can detect as a delay in the sound.

You will also need to either set (in App/Service mode) the HD core you'll use to one of the low latency settings like so:

Or enable (in Config mode) a Speaker Output in the HD core you'll be using:

And then (in App/Service mode) set that Speaker Output to this patch point:

*ASIO4ALL is not actually ASIO since it's just using Kernel Streaming, so you'll be able to get lower latency by just using BaOne's in-built KS support

How close is BreakawayOne to other professional software for these type of things?

AlexDrop, it depends on what the other products you're comparing it to actually do, and what "these type of things" means.

As a general purpose final broadcast audio processor, BreakawayOne competes squarely with all of the other flagship processors from the major manufacturers, as well as basically being the nephew of the Omnia.9 one of Omnia's two flagships. Some will say it's better or worse than whatever other brand's flagship processor (some of them cost over $10,000 btw, most are over $7,000), which is a never-ending debate, but ~everyone can agree that it's a competently and properly engineered piece of broadcast equipment. Leif's processing has been used on everything from the Super Bowl (the last 14x actually) to the Olympics (they use 75-100 boxes), and have been installed everywhere from the Eiffel Tower to Voice Of America.

    TLDR; Yes. 😛
