I like to control the Breakaway volume with my own software (written in VB6).
Without Breakaway I can access the mixer with Windows APIs but when Breakaway is installed then this is disabled (I understand why).

Is it possible to control the Breakaway volume i.e. with Windows Messages?

WinAMP is i.e. a program which allows the use of WM_COMMAND Messages for many setting. Here is some information about that as an example:
    http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=180297

What I want to do is fade out, keep the volume down i.e. for a second and then fade in again. If there would be any command like "BreakawaySetVolume=100" and "BreakawayGetVolume" this would be perfect.

    Thanks for your help

After 3 weeks and no answer I try again. Is there nobody out there who is also interested in this?

I also send a mail to keith@claessonedwards.com but unfortunately I did not get any answer.

I understand if the product does not have this feature but it would be nice to get at least an answer.

    Thanks

    My apologies!

The product doesn’t have this feature yet, but it is an easy thing to add. I’ll look at it for the next version.

Do you have already an estimation when you will publish the next version?
Because if this happens likely in the next months then I can wait, if not then I have to program a work around.

    Thanks

    Hi Edgar!

Next BAE release = high probability of being within 2 months.

    Hello Leif,

any news about the next BAE release and the 3rd party volume control?

I really need that feature for two existing BAE installations and for a couple of new installations …

    Thanks

Yes! I have added this feature to Breakaway Live already, so Breakaway Personal is not far behind.

    Hi Edgar!

Yes. Next week I’m travelling to Stockholm to visit my sister, who had a bunch of usability improvement ideas for Breakaway, so we’re going to sit down and I’m going to make a whole bunch of improvements. Good thing you reminded me about the volume control API, so that I can remember to implement it.

    Best,

Having the same problem. Would like to use Breakaway only for selected videos which have poor sound. Normally using reference movies preset for watching live or recorded tv programs. But the Breakaway sound is very thin compared to the original drivers sound. (even tried increasing the bass).
And even after clicking the bypass feature, I have to control the volume
from the breakaway which is very tedious. Since would like a quicker way of altering the sound level preferably from the players original sound control.
Seems that new version of Breakaway audio enhancer as promised by Lief has not been yet released which was to have this feature of controlling the sound from the player rather than from Breakaway.

There is a way, kmoksha :

This way you cannot change Breakaway’s output volume, but you can decrease (and increase after you have decreased) the input for Breakaway.
It is not a perfect solution, because of the dynamic processing logic (relative enhancement of lower volumes), but it does what you want:
You can use the normal volume controls of your applications (the same way it had worked before you have installed Breakaway).

Michi, thank you for the suggestion, but what you’re describing is a really bad idea for the exact reason you described. When the user tries to lower the volume in this manner, Breakaway will see a quiet input signal and do it’s job and increase the level again, until it runs out of range.

In fact, this very situation is the reason the volume controls are disabled by default, as conceptually, it cannot work. And, when things fail even in theory, practice doesn’t stand a chance.
