Hey, do you guys like bass?
Oh, you don’t?
What a shame. Talk to you later then.
I know.. You knew it was coming 🙂.
There’s a new plug-in in the freebie section.
We at the ClaessonEdwards institute undertook a rigorous research project, deep-diving into the psychoacoustic fundamentals of bass.
(Or perhaps I just stumbled across the solution by accident today, but the last explanation sounded better, didn’t it?)
The result:BASS-EFX
This brand new innovative bass enhancer adds an unthinkable thud / slam to your music, and gives you a very round, full bass, previously unattainable. It is not an equalizer. It does not boost the bass, and it is not a subharmonic syntherizer, but rather it intelligently restructures and realigns the components of the bass waveform for maximum impact.
I didn’t think this level of intense thunderous slam was possible, but I am always glad to prove myself wrong!
The beauty of it is that it doesn’t over-enhance already bass-heavy music, but rather adds punch to songs that don’t have a lot of bass.
It has four settings (Level 1, 2, 3 and 4) and an on/off switch, accessible through the Config window.
What are you waiting for? Check it out 😉.

January 16, 2009 at 4:40 pm #6275AnonymousGuestHello, sorry for the newbie question… do we put this bass enhancer in the "Effects" plug-ins (i.e. before the processing)? I usually see bass enhancers after the processing, just checking to make sure, thanks!
January 16, 2009 at 5:18 pm #6276LeifKeymasterHowdy!
Before processing, for sure. If used after processing, it would ruin the peak control. "Effects" section is correct!
January 16, 2009 at 6:14 pm #6277AnonymousGuestHello Leif!,
Nice piece of Software processing man! Great job 🙂
Also this plugin works perfect
But what about the idea to built the BASS-EFX plugin right into the Breakaway Broadcast Processor?
Could be a helpful feature for people who dont want to use plugins? And your software will be a step closer to an all-in-1 solution for people who dont want to invest so much money in a broadcast processor 😀 Perhaps you could think about to enclose other plugins in BBP?Nah, for this time it’s all what I want to say! 🙂
Regards,
SDF
From the NetherlandsJanuary 17, 2009 at 3:03 am #6278LeifKeymasterHi SDF!
Thank you for your comments!
Part of the reason why there is plug-in support, is so that I can do little things like this without having to bother with a full release. It’s very possible that the most popular ones will be rolled into the main product at some point. No need to wait though — if you like the sound of the plug-ins, use them! There is really no disadvantage to using a plug-in over a built-in function, because, due to the nature of computers, when a plug-in is loaded, it IS built in, albeit temporarily. 🙂
By the way, I just updated BASS-EFX and Impact/Clunk. Both are now version 1.01.
Impact/Clunk is now adjustable. Both now remember the window position and settings properly.

January 17, 2009 at 3:40 pm #6279ErwinMemberI try these Impact/Clunk, Phase Tornado and BASS-EFX in Winamp, without BBP but I hear no difference. Are these plugins only working with BBP?
January 17, 2009 at 4:59 pm #6280LeifKeymasterNot at all, the plug-ins work in Winamp too — but Impact and BASS-EFX probably only make a difference when you have a broadcast processor afterwards in the chain.
Phase Tornado is easy to hear even in Winamp though! Try a song with very sharp drums, like Fleetwood Mac – Dreams.

January 17, 2009 at 5:48 pm #6281AnonymousGuestSounds GREAT!!
This was the missing part in my chain (compellor > orban 1100 > BW) 😀
I know this is not your main goal, but is it possible to make a VST version of it too? I really like to use this bass enhancement for mastering my radio imaging! RTAS plugin (ProTools) should be absolutely great but i know there are more VST users and RTAS is more difficult i think 😉
Thanks for this great plugin
January 17, 2009 at 5:58 pm #6282LeifKeymasterNice, Kingniels! 🙂
Let’s hear some MPX from your setup.. I’ll bet BBP can beat it 😉.
I might do VST plug-ins at some point.. I should add VST plug-in support to my processors as well. So much to do, so little time… It might come one day though.

January 17, 2009 at 10:03 pm #6283ErwinMemberWhere can I add these plugins in BBP?
January 18, 2009 at 12:46 am #6284LeifKeymasterHow to load DSP plug-ins in BBP and Live:
In the I/O Configuration, enable "Effects". Then, in the settings window, you will see controls for Effect Plug-ins. Press the "Edit" button to open the window where you select plug-ins. After you’re finished, press OK to save the settings, and then press "Reload" to load the plug-ins you selected. Finally, press "Config" to change plug-in settings, for the plug-ins that have settings.

January 18, 2009 at 1:11 am #6285ErwinMemberOk. Thanks. Sounds briliant!
January 18, 2009 at 10:00 pm #6286sgeirkMemberLeif,
Can you help explain the difference between slam and clunk settings in the new phase rotator. While I like the names…what does each affect? Thanks.
To my ears it almost sounds like adjusting some sort of texture settings of a composite clipper…or something. Thanks! Brilliant.
January 19, 2009 at 4:31 am #6287LeifKeymasterI can, but I’m not sure how helpful it’ll be 🙂.
The Clunk control, when cranked up, adds a sort of "clunk" sound to for example snare drum transients. It’s done through phase rotation — so it keeps the energy constant but DECREASES the peak level.. Thus, less clipping, and more of the original transient gets through. It takes affect somewhere in the midrange area.
The Slam control is similar, but affects the bass area, and adds a "slam" sound to kick drums.
I’m not sure how much better I can explain it.. The ears are the best judge. Play something peaky! Fleetwood Mac – Dreams is a track I often use for this sort of experiment.
Best,

[/quote]I don't see any controls or "Edit" function. How do i then install dsp attenuators and dsp impact/clunk in to Breakaway Live?
