I have an HP laptop/Win 7.  Ever since I installed the Breakaway Enhancer I no longer have sound unless i have something (headphones or external speakers) plugged in.  Somehow I have lost the output through the laptop speakers.  Is there a setting I need to change?

Go to Control Panel then click on Sound.  On the Playback Tab make sure you have the correct speaker selected

How to fix this in 7 Steps :

Step 1 : Open the main Breakaway Audio Enhancer interface.
Step 2 : Right click on the title bar (or somewhere else, but not on a button) and click settings.
Step 3 : On the "Output" section, set the "Channels" to "4(All)", And click "Finish"
Step 4 : Then play some audio and test all the output devices. (Eg: your speakers and headphones etc.)
Step 5 : If everything works fine, your problem has been solved.
Step 6 : If everything does not work fine, then go to "settings" again and try some other "Channels" on the "output" section and test your output devices again. You should be able to find a setting that can play through all your output devices.
    Step 7 : Enjoy!
