    Leif,

Do you think increasing RAM can improve performance of BBP? I am running the processor on a pretty good system, but every couple of minutes, I hear some clicks and pops. I am planning on switching to Breakaway Live once it drops, but until then, I’d like to eliminate the clicks and pops.

By the way Leif, will the first Breakaway Live beta be as far along as BBP is (in terms of actual processing quality and stability)? I figure that it will since you’re already many betas deep into BBP and know the ins-and-outs of the program.

    Thanks!

check DPC Latency (google it), make sure it’s not a "naughty" driver doing it, while you go down the list of devices to disable… to find out what/if that’s a problem…

try increasing buffer size and changing different numbers of buffers…

make sure no other process is running that ends up taking much CPU time over a long period. make sure no other process is running above Normal priority…

make sure the latest drivers are installed from your OEM provider (or the manufacturer if possible) for all of your hardware but especially mainboard, audio, video, networking, and usb/firewire

man… there’s like 100 things i could think of that could cause an instability…

Is it possible that switching from Wave to KS on the input side would have fixed the clicking problem?

Here is my setup and routing…

    Windows XP system
    1 GB of RAM
    Pentium 4 2.8gHz
    M-Audio Delta soundcard

Audio comes from automation computer into processing computer through the M-Audio’s inputs. Routed to Breakaway using Kernel Streaming (was using Wave for this portion until this morning), processed, and then sent back to the M-Audio outputs using Wave streaming. Before I did this, I was getting a steady cluster of clicks and pops every minute or so for about 5 seconds.

Now it seems to have disappeared…sound about right?

Probably The P4 2.8GHz ist just not fast enough…

My system was too slow also (AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2,4GHz)

Now with a Core2Duo everything works pretty nice.

Ram isn’t needed that much. I Think 256MB or 512MB would be sufficient

It depends on what you’re running, but imo you should just go with 1GB stick, they are so cheap if you don’t need/want fast memory. But also depends on the OS. With XP this is fine.

Not that I would ever recommend Vista for ANY purpose… it uses insane amounts of memory, and anything less than 2GB of ram is brutal. I really wouldn’t run it without 3GB of ram.
