Hello Everyone,
First, this is my first post on the forum, and I must say I’m very impressed with the Breakaway product line.
I have a few first time questions as far the setup I’m running.
Right now we are running on a Godaddy host VPS Windows Serv. 2008 Server.
4gb’s of data (Mid Range VPS)
We are looking to moving to a Dedicated Server soon through Godaddy.
Stats are as followed,OS: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit
CPU: Intel Core i5 – 4 cores
RAM: 4 GB
Storage: 2 x 300 GB hard drives
Bandwidth: 10 TB per monthWe are an online radio station looking to move to FM later this year.
In the process of dealing with the FCC and etc, but now to my question.
Right now I’m running through Sam Broadcaster (The Tutorial provided here on the forums).
Works well, but we are experince a buffer in the streams (All qualities after about of 5 mins)First questions, is there a more effiecnt way of running the DSP (Live Link) through Sam other then following
the tutorial and then going through ED CAST.
Next question, is the buffering due to the Plug in or Server its self as it is VPS?
Our Stream Chain looks likes this at the moment.
(SAMBC)===<192K Stream (source)>==Icecast 1===Stream Transcoder (Breaks the 192 Stream in to multiple Stream qualities) === IceCast Server 2 (Main Server listners connect to)Here is a link to our streams, if anyone could please test and see if the buffering happens to them (Would be much appreciated)

If anyone has any ideas or streamlining ideas, would be much appreciated.Next, if anyone here is familer with Z100 (New York Pop Station).
We are trying to get Breakaway Broadcaster to some what reflect their sound. I’ve read through and tried many of the presets both in the program but also suggested here on the forums.
as testing to the diffrent stream, their processing seems to roll across from FM, their station on SirusXM and their online stream. Here is a link to their audio stream http://www.iheart.com/#/live/1469/?autoplay=true
Also, I’ve attached a current picture of our settings in Breakaway Broadcaster
We are running the following plugins
Attu: 6DB
Phase Rotator
Clunk & Sam Clunk 2 Slam 2

Do the meters in Edcast reflect your buffer problems? If no, the problem is after Edcast. If yes, your problems are before Edcast which leaves only Sam and Breakaway.
You should know that I am not familiar with Icecast – I’m a Shoutcast man.

Few updates, looked to try the idea with SAM on removing the live link and using the pipeline. On the VPS the pipeline shows installed on VPS, but Sam doesn’t show it as and audio source nor does it on the windows audio sources. Wonder if this is something with godaddy’s VPS server. Wonder if it’s different on a dedicated box. Even tryed a fresh install. Also, edcast meters don’t read anything from Sam stream except showing its encoding.
I tryed using the Sam encoders to and does the same buffering even using Sam encoders. Here’s info from the test this morning.
All streams seem to be affected equally. Did test all night on the server, and
the streams all seem to constantly buffer after 2:38 secs.
We are running stream transcoder v3 – odd sock
icecast win32 v2.3.1I’ve tryed putting straight from SAMBC straight into the broadcast server and still buffers.
Also, was monitoring the server stats this morning, found that memory usage is sitting at 918meg, but processor (CPU usage) was jumping from 21% to 65+% constantly. Think this could be the culprit. Which seems pretty deadly for a VPS to jump that much.

Have you tried streaming from a physical machine to the server?
August 16, 2012 at 2:43 am #13407dancemusicradioParticipantheres my settings, in breakaway set pipeline 1 as input and pipeline 2 as output, set drivers on both pipelines as ks. in sam go to the AGC and check off all AGC/processing on all decks including voice and sound fx. go to use soundcard AGC and check it on, set pipeline 1 as the input and to as the output. these remove the need for edcast and livelink. if you want to use edcast check it on in the encoder plugins in breakaway, if you want to use a mike only then set up that in voice fx, set the soundcard driver as whatever your soundcard is, if you have a mixing desk and you wish to use it just go to the queue and use the record from mike feature or press (control and m) set your source to line-in. click okay and you should have a track called live recording, click on it and make sure it goes to the top of the queue (working this way sounds more complicated then it is)

August 17, 2012 at 4:18 am #13409K101FMMemberKnigget & Mick,
Ok, ran some test today on the server. First, because its a VPS server, I found out there is no audio support what so ever, which is why I am unable to run the Breakaway Lines and SAM with the Audio Card AGC. I found this out ever talking to godaddy tech support.
I also found out with their full dedicated boxes that the virtual audio cables would work. So, I believe that is the next logical step for us.Next, I ran the suggest test of streaming remotely to the server, and the stream test just fine with now buffer issues at all. Thus, I feel the issue lays in that the VPS is just not powerful enough to handle what we are looking for in our web based streams.

No. Z100 in New York is owned by Clear Channel Media & Entertainment.
All CC stations use the Orban PC1101e card for online stream processing. They have specially made presets rolled for CC stations by a recording engineer in Nashville, TN. The preferred method is to select one of the specially made presets based on format. So without looking at the specifics of a CC station’s online processor settings, it’s gonna be impossible to get the "exact" sound they have. 8)
On air, all CC stations use Omnia processors for FM and Orban processors for AM.
August 18, 2012 at 12:55 am #13413JesseGMemberCC Labs also has the C4 4-band composite processor they use on some of the most brutally competitive formats/markets. That is hopefully gone by the wayside as new omnia flagships are being installed. It’s not nice to the sound at all, and it’s just not louder or even as loud anymore.
August 20, 2012 at 3:51 am #13414timmywaParticipantI was allowed the great opportunity to visit Farnsworth Peak in SLC where most of the major FMs broadcast from. I was shown around and saw the little black CC clipper boxes on a few of the station’s racks.
I also was put to work in moving out and in some transmitters. Those dawgs are HEAVY!!
It was very educational and a lot of fun!
