Understanding meta data

Hi,
I am finding getting meta data to process through my stream very difficult to work out.

I am using Breakaway to process my soundcard which I then use custom software to compress and send to my transmitter via wireless link. In addition I have edcast listening to the Breakaway processor and streaming to my shoutcast server. The issue I have is I have no meta data in my stream and using edcast I am not sure how the hell I add it.

I found a great PDF titled webcasting the Breakaway, but I am not sure if this is correct to follow as I do not want to affect my main broadcast to my transmitter.

So help would be appreciated if anyone can write me an idiots guide to get this transmitting the correct song metadata.
