    Hi All,

First I want to say Breakaway is a product I have been long searching for and I am extremely happy to have finally found it. That said, I am having some issues with volume control / mute.

I have a HTPC that has Windows Media Center (windows 7 x64) running 99% of the time. Due to this I prefer to control the volume in WMC. What I find happens however, is that randomly the volume adjustments or muting will be passed to breakaway. When this happens, the volume/mute can no longer be controlled while WMC is running. I have to minimize WMC, and unmute, or raise up the volume in breakaway.

It may be interesting to note I have only observed this with breakaway lowering volume, not raising it. I have never had to minimuze WMC to lower the volume in breakaway.

If there is any way to avoid this situation, I would greatly appreciate any advice.

I have the same issue. I was a user of VolumeLogic and was thrilled to find out about Breakway. It’s everything VL was and more. Amazing.

But, this WMC issue is a challenge. When in WMC, my remote does control the volume in Breakway, but not consitantly. And, the volume indicator in WMC is out of sync.

Any help you can offer on a possible fix would be much appreciated.

Try adjusting your "Range" to a lower setting. I use this for my Karaoke program and have to lower the "Range" or my background (music between singers) is as high as my regular volume…

This didn’t help, at least for me. I can even mute WMC, and yet sound still comes out of breakaway. It’s pretty annoying.

I have also found this to be a rather long way around approach. There is nothing at least for now that can be done about about it since breakaway takes over the control and hence you would have to adjust volume from within breakaway. I watch many movies and enjoy trying different sound profiles so I know how irratating this can be. The best is to just minimize breakway to the taskbar and then if you need to open it just minimize wmp and then fiddle around. A breakaway widget would be cool. I am going to try design one in rainmeter and will get back to you.

I think a good solution for this would be a possilbe new feature in Breakaway. It would be to have more options that allow it to give on-screen feedback that’s more like the built in system volume in Windows.

For example, if a volume increase command is received a little window pops up and displays an indicator of the volume increase. This window could be configured to always be on top. If you could also configure the position of the window, then you could make it show up on the top right and when you adjust the volume on the WMC remote, the breakaway thing would pop up over the top of the WMC volume indicator. Just a thought.

That isn’t possible without invasive memory programming, which would have to have crazy heuristics, and would still probably need to be adapted for a bunch of different versions, of just one software (of millions). And it would be a support nightmare. (im an ex game hacker, trust me, this is right up my alley)

Did you find the Breakaway toolbar in Windows’ taskbar yet? 🙂
