I’m already using Breakaway on my HTPC and would like to know where I can find a commercial stand-alone product (something like the SRS Labs DCT-8S MyVolume Advanced HDMI Television Volume Leveling Adapter) that uses Breakaway to do volume leveling without having to run the signal(s) through a PC.
I’d love to have a Breakaway "box" I could insert in-line without having to boot a computer to get volume limiting. IM(NSH)O Breakaway is the *only* product that actually does the job, and I’d love to see it built into its own box as well as installed as a service on my HTPC.

You can build a 1U rack mounted server to run Breakaway in it, that just sits there and works, without the need to have a screen, keyboard, mouse, etc hooked up to it. For a lot cheaper than buying an Omnia.9. You wouldn’t need anything more than one of those single core Atom ones where the CPU is basically "hard-wired" to the motherboard, which are usually very cheap. And then spend a bit of the savings on getting a decent soundcard for it.
That being said, you could just get an Omnia.9 if you have a large budget.

It’s not analog, so it’s digital, and therefore runs software, on some kind of CPU, which needs an OS to support operation of the device. That’s a computer. 8) So I guess it just depends on what way you want to think of something, from a marketing standpoint where it’s just "a box", or from a technical standpoint… where it’s what it really is. I bet you can get a lot more transparent sounding ADC/DAC in a soundcard you select, than whatever random cheap crap they put into the SRS box. (assuming it’s cheap)
