In your FAQ’s you say that Breakaway does NOT EQ the sound since the sound source has been EQ’s PRIOR to reaching Breakaway. Yet your settings function similarly.
No need to go into tech talk with algorithms and the like. I’m just an audiophile who would prefer simplification of your settings.

I understand sound is a subjected thing to each individual. Therefore one persons settings may differ from anotherโ€™s for preference.
For instance the ‘Bass Boost’ & ‘Bass Shaping’ are somewhat self explanatory and by using them the results are more obvious than the other selections (range, power, speed). This goes to for the other selections (Helix, French Kiss, Oldies, etc…). I find these selections contradictory to your previous EQ position that Breakaway DOES NOT have any bearing on those settings. Windows Media Player has a setting ‘Oldies’ as do you. And to the ear they function about the same. So to the layman Breakaway DOES EQ the sound if not technically at least audibly.

I would find it a better experience to have certain PRE-sets like Oldies, Jazz, Rock, Country, etc… and THEN be able to tweak them to my specific ear (ala EQ).

It would also be most beneficial to have an option of a little volume control that could sit idolly by to be used as needed without having to open up the big screen to control the volume. A volume control sized like the one in Windows would suffice.

I think you misunderstand the purpose of Breakaway. You are hearing compression changes in the music. Breakaway Personal does have, if I remember right, an FM Mode that allows some minor changes to the sound by letting you set crossover points and gain. But I also think I read somewhere that it could be counter productive to us the FM Mode. Tilt in your sound card can also change the way things work.

For what you seem to be looking for, I would recommend you download BBP-LIVE and try it if you want more control over the music sound. It has a parametric EQ for the speakers. But that limiter isn’t as clean as the loudness settings so I don’t use the PEQ for anything except to cut certain frequencies like a de-esser would do so that the limiter never raises it’s head. ๐Ÿ™‚ BBP-LIVE has a stereo enhancer that is sweet on some presets, to my ears at least. In BBP LIVE its worth keeping in mind that the effect plugins are BEFORE the multiband and the encoder plugins are after. I learned that the hard way! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Get BBP-LIVE and see what you think! Sounds like you would be more pleased with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the tips, I think the EQ might benefit me greatly. I will try the ‘Live’ version. I may also try the other versions while I’m at it.

Do you know if of these versions also offer a compressor/limiter that can be adjusted?

Also too, I sometimes like to listen to OTR (Old Time Radio) shows where their recording techniques were HORRIFIC! I’m thinking the parametric EQ could help in eliminating some of the tape hiss. Unfortunately there isn’t really much that can be done with the clipping aspect (unless you know of some tricks) of the recordings. Garbage in garbage out. On OTR recordings they overmodulate during loud musical numbers and audience applause and laughter. It would be nice to curtail those peaks without muffling the rest of the dialogue by bringing down the high end. If you have any suggestions I’m all ears.

How about being able to adjust or enhance the seperation of each channel? Is there anything on Breakaways versions that will allow for such an adjustment?

I appreciate the input Kes. Happy New Year to you.

Yes. I recommend you go to the the creator’s website …. http://www.claessonedwards.com/index.ph … Itemid=139 ….. and read about all the great things each version has to offer. The select the one you think most fits your needs and download the 30 day trial.

Personally, I would start with Reference Classical default settings and adjust to taste if you want more of a flat sound. If you want a more open sound but aren’t sure exactly how to "EQ" it for your needs, I’d suggest Oldies all default and adjust to taste. As you can read on this forum, future versions of Breakaway will contain a brand new technology designed to reverse clipping, "Undo" technology is something the creator of this software, Lief, introduced in Omnia 9, the latest big name processor for radio stations. I have never heard a station running "Undo" yet but from reading trade papers, forums and hearing others talk who are using the box now, there’s just nothing else in today’s market that comes close. So, to make a long story short, "Undo" isn’t available in the current versions so you will just have to tweak until you find a happy medium that balances the bad sounding clipped audio with the good and what your ears can take. HINT: Less compression, remember Power = compression ratio, gives a more open sound. I wouldn’t recommend going above 80 in an instance and in most cases allot lower than that!

Breakaway to my ears does a super job of separation out of the box. You can in LIVE turn on the challenger enhancer and expand the separation I suppose. If you use enhancer best advice I can give, search the this forum for settings, JesseG’s are the best IMHO and set it and forget it. If it’s equalization of the channels your looking for go here …. http://www.claessonedwards.com/index.ph … Itemid=139 …. and download the Auto Balance plugin.

Hope all this gives you a little tad bit of information from an old radio and audiophile junkie.
