Hi!
Finally, I changed my ESI Juli@ to a new Marian Trace Alpha.
I installed the card using the drivers from the CD (released in 21/01/2011, v. 2.21) on my Windows XP SP3 32 bits.
With that version, the sound was not comes in BBP ASIO and therefore not out.
I downloaded and installed the web version (2.02). From that moment as it sounds, but the output volume is very strong, then I modified the volume control switch from +18 dBu to +8 dBu phisically on the card.My problem is that although the input and output are not saturated, the sound is distorted. The sound comes in with -6/-9 dB and comes out with -3dB, the Trace Alpha mixer VU meters doesn’t show any clip or high level.
My chain sound: mixer L / R balanced outputs to the inputs of the Trace Alpha (balanced), BBP ASIO without plugins / encoders, balanced output from the Trace Alpha (L channel) connected to the BNC input of the transmitter.
I try to disconnect the mixer and connect my iPhone xD But the sound persist distorted.
In general, I noticed a big good change sound from Juli@ to Trace Alpha, but the Juli@ practically not distorts compared with Trace Alpha, but I’m convinced that if Trace Alpha distorts it’s because I have this problem.
Can someone help, please?
thanks!
March 10, 2011 at 1:42 am #11948JesseGMemberHave you tried dropping the output more with a resistor in line?
March 10, 2011 at 9:25 am #11949didacParticipantNo, I don’t have much knowledge of electronics …
But I reduced the output gain from +18 to +8 and the sound is distorted…
What driver version do you use?
Thanks!
March 10, 2011 at 9:33 am #11950JesseGMemberYou can also reduce the gain in Breakaway’s output too, to whatever you need. I don’t know if the level of the output is what you’re hearing though, but I would try that too. Is there a way you can record the sound of your FM off air?
March 10, 2011 at 10:49 am #11951didacParticipantYes, I have another PC with a Juli@ and a Tivoli Model One modified for record MPX.
Please, tell me one song that you know perfectly to find the distortion.
I will record off-air and onair sound.
This is a capture, you see that softwares doesn’t show any distortion, but the final sound is distorted.
March 10, 2011 at 11:10 am #11952JesseGMemberare the "play" sliders supposed to be up? somehow the "Master" on the right side is showing that it’s mixing your analog inputs and Breakaway’s outputs together. that is at least part of the problem.
March 10, 2011 at 11:35 am #11953didacParticipantI try to decrease completely all sliders of the big Trace Alpha mixer, and the sound doesn’t change, this mixer doesn’t affect to BBP ASIO, I don’t know why.
The sound only decreases when I decrease the slider of the little mixer (Trace Outputs), and this slider is of the MPX output.
JesseG, have you this card?
Thanks!
March 10, 2011 at 11:51 am #11954didacParticipantI record ONAIR 2 songs:
– "The Corrs – Runaway"
– "Janet Jackson – Together again"http://www.totradio.com/d/distort_onair.flac
BBP ASIO have loaded the Edcast to stream the station, if you needs ear the BBP ASIO from inside, please listen the streaming:
MP3 at 160 kbps: http://www.totradio.com:8000/128kbps
AAC+ v.2 at 48 kbps PS: http://www.totradio.com:8000/aac48Thanks!
March 10, 2011 at 12:23 pm #11955JesseGMemberI just checked your MPX file, thanks to send that.
Yes, you are mixing the input back into the output. Did you try turning down the input sliders? It’s definitely just a routing problem in the soundcard mixer. 🙂
No pilot protection, RDS protection, etc. 😉 I bet this really distorts even worse if the FM demodulator isn’t as awesome as MPX Tool’s. hehe.
March 10, 2011 at 12:27 pm #11956JesseGMemberActually, after thinking about this, I’m not sure that the only thing that’s happening is that the input is mixing back into the lows. The input audio doesn’t have spectrum up by the RDS. Is the RDS generator you’re using *only* outputting RDS? I think Breakaway filters that out anyways, but I’m not sure. You wanna make sure that your RDS generator isn’t also sending audio or composite.
March 10, 2011 at 12:47 pm #11957didacParticipantI’m using Airomate with Pipeline, only for RDS sub-carrier, no audio.
And don’t heard the input mixed on output, no echo.
What is the next step?
You need the OFFAIR record?
March 10, 2011 at 2:14 pm #11958JesseGMemberNo need to get off air, somehow there’s a bunch of trash getting mixed into the output of the soundcard. I don’t have one of these, maybe someone with one can see what you’re doing wrong instantly. You could probably post a screenshot of your IO Config from Breakaway, and your ASIO control panel screens that are relevant.
March 10, 2011 at 3:19 pm #11959didacParticipantOK, these are captures of my config.
The switches of output gain are at +8 dBu.
The driver version is 2.02, if I use 2.21 (CD version) no sound come in/out to BBP ASIO.
Thanks!
March 10, 2011 at 3:20 pm #11960didacParticipantThe last Capture (max. 3 captures for post).
