I’m running BBP with Livelink and StationPlaylist automation. Before, I’ve always used LINE IN from a mixer. Since I realized the only reason I wanted it that way was in order to hop on live if I wanted… and I’ve maybe done that four or five times… I decided to go straight from Station Playlist into BBP and out to the encoder.

Is this just a "placebo" effect, or is it actually possible that the audio is cleaner and fuller? I’m assuming since I’m not going into the analog mixer, and back into another soundcard, that that’s why there’s a difference.

    Or maybe I’m crazy.

Which could be the case — just curious what others think. 😀

You’re not crazy. 🙂 Studios going to an all digital audio path aren’t just doing it for ergonomics or routing simplicity/features. It can make a huge difference for the audio, depending on what analog gear is being taken out of the picture.

    Very interesting topic!

Are you saying one will achieve better sound using livelink? Isn’t there much to be gained using a proper sound card as opposed to the livelink?

    Cheers,

Live link is lossless. A pair of analog converters of any quality can’t equal it, much less beat it. I wouldn’t use the term "better", but it’s certainly 100% transparent.
