I like the pricing structure that Stereo Tool is sold on, you pay for the features you require, not the ones you don’t. Perhaps this model could be implemented for Breakaway One.

I agree about True Bass, it does a nice job of reconstructing missing bass frequencies. And it’s great to be able to move some things around in the chain to get the sound you want.

In my experience, there can be stability issues with using some VST plugins within BA1. I have used Stereo Tool as a VST within it for the DeClipper, but it was quite resource hungry and there were a few bugs and glitches, especially when making adjustments, it would not recall a preset properly upon restart and would crash randomly so I shelved the idea. Better to have purpose-built software with the features built in than trying to patch things into it.

I like the natural, warm, round, analog-like sound that Breakaway can make, but I also like a competitive sound that isn’t fatiguing. Big punchy bass with bright and airy highs, without being shrill or distorting.

With the many audio processors available, there are differing features, but so far not all the best features seem to be available in one solution.

    My wishlist would be:

    Multiband AGC/Leveler (Ariane/Chameleon)
Bass enhancer controls with thump, punch, and solar plexus (Omnia 9/11)
    Natural dynamics / Undo (StereoTool/Omnia 9)
    Dynamic/Auto EQ (StereoTool)
    Delossifier (StereoTool)
    DeClipper (StereoTool/Omnia 9 & 11)
    Upgraded Stereo Enhancer (Omnia 9)
    Enhanced composite clipper
Secondary input: sidechain for microphone processing with program mix level adjust (Jรผnger D*AP4)
Voice processing options with Dynamic EQ, tube emulation
RDS RadioText & Streaming metadata scheduling, with the ability to get data from multiple sources such as playout, DJ consoles/mixers, webpage, simple text, CSV. For example to show the current show name/presenter/DJ and now playing track information

It would be nice to have those features all in one place. Given that hardware boxes like the Omnia 9 and 11 are to all intents and purposes a computer that is running custom software, with an audio I/O interface, realising the features into software for end-user computers is viable.

Thanks pos1, very helpful. I have ended up with around -1.35dB 20Hz 2.87oct phase linear. Maximum peak is now around 78.7kHz. I set the sine test tone at 20, 30, 40, 50 and 100Hz and adjusted the PEQ width to bring them all to 75kHz (in that order, ending with 100Hz). A little more tweaking to bring max peak to 75kHz.

Thanks for clarifying. Sometimes a manual for BAO would be handy ๐Ÿ™‚

With 400Hz level calibrated to read 75kHz deviation, avg deviation is 77kHz with peaks to 83kHz. Seems to be happening mostly on the deep bass, so it’s looking like the TX audio/PLL stage causing some tilt. I’ll need to contact the manufacturer or someone with some knowledge of that circuit. Unless there happens to be a TX guru around on here.

    Thanks

    Thanks for those Milky.

I have added in an AGC via a VST and am trying out various settings to see if I can get the required sound. So far it does sound more open without the pre-AGC, but that might just be some settings need changing. One thing I have noticed though is that it’s much more punchy when you use a declipper plugin.

With regards to the presets, none appear to be using multiband AGC, the display shows a single AGC bar. It would be good to have some spectral control both before and after the multibands, and the ability to adjust it to taste.

    I see..

It seems to be a closely guarded secret, purely for those deemed ‘the elite warriors’.

It is the one thing that diverts my attention to other worlds, where I can hone my craft with creative freedom..

I should be free to ‘mess it up’ in my own way, after all I am paying for the privilege ๐Ÿ˜€

I can’t quite get the sound I want from the presets. I’d like the ability to tweak the inner settings but that option isn’t available it seems.

    Thanks Milky,

I like the consistency that can be achieved with a multiband AGC. Can BA1 be set to multiband on the AGC?
