Awesome!!
thanks for that advice!
;DRipleeMemberI am happy to report that with the new version of Breakaway Live, I have no issues. I don’t know what is different in the latest version, but I am over a week now with no issues!
WOOHOO!!! 😀It was well worth the wait for a fix…nothing can touch this software, IMHO.
RipleeMemberLeif,
I have a question regarding bass reduction and headroom.
Is it preferable, technically, to use the bass controls to back off the bass a bit, or to use the HPF in the settings section?
I guess what I am asking is where they sit in the signal flow. I’ve tried both backing off the bass level, and tried leaving the bass normal, and upping the HPF setting to say 45Hz.
I find depending on the preset, the bass will be stronger or weaker, typically with modern music leaning to the bass heavy side…especially way down low. I can just chop the heaviness off with the HPF, but I was wondering if that may still cause BL to have to deal with it, only to be chopped off later…seems a bit silly if it would be better to reduce it pre-processing, and not move the HPF above 30Hz. Obviously the bass controls offer more flexibility, but I try to keep things as simple as possible, adjusting only what I really need to, beyond where the preset gets me. Strange, but even though this is processing, I try to keep an audiophile-ish approach of less is more…let the preset get you as close to a sound you desire, and tweak slightly, if at all, from there. The low end usually is the area where some cleanup is needed it seems.Example: Leave HPF at 30Hz and back bass off to -10 or -15, or leave bass flat and move HPF to 45Hz.
Audibly they seem to have a similar effect, just wondering which you would suggest.
Thanks!
RipleeMemberI’ve never had this issue with 90.69…only with versions since then.
Also…when this occured over the weekend, restarting BL wasn’t the answer…I had to restart the PC.RipleeMemberOK…it’s back! I just tuned in from work, and the crackling has begun again. I posted my station URL earlier in this thread if anyone wnats to hear it.
Is there any way to "export" this Eruption preset and import it into a different version? I really like the sound I am getting currently…save for the crackling.
I don’t know what is going on, but it only happens on the newer versions….never happens with 90.69
If there was any way to get Eruption in 90.69 I would be a very happy camper! 😀RipleeMemberHi!
I just rebooted the machine yesterday, so it’ll probably be a few days before it starts again. I will surely record it if you’d like.
I know you listened to the stream when it was happening before, and agreed it’s not a good thing!
After doing as you asked, and returning to 90.69, I didn’t have nay problems…for weeks.
Again…I really love the new preset…"Eruption". It’s my kind-O preset! 🙂
I’ve tweaked it a bit…and love the sound I am now getting. Will be in touch when I have more to share!
RipleeMemberHi guys !
When the new version with the FANTASTIC Eruption preset came out, I figured I’d give it a try…what the heck! Up until that point, I was running 90.69 with no problems whatsoever. I tried the new one, fell in love with Eruption…and after about 4-5 days, the problem resurfaced. So, whatever is going on is in the latest builds…possibly the pipeline as I understand it. I wish there was some way to use the new BL, with the old pipeline…that would be a good test. Perhaps Leif you might compile a "Test" version for this…?
Anyways, I love this new preset so much, that I am willing to restart every so often, so I can continue using Eruption. Is there any way of adding newer presets to older versions, by any chance? 😕RipleeMemberAndy,
Everything is fine with the 90.69 version. Waiting to hear from Leif if the issue is indeed in the new version, and when it may be corrected. I’m in no hurry, as I know he’s a very busy guy, and I am confident he will get it straightened out. It’s not like 90.69 is a bad product after all !! (although the stereo enhancer in the new one is really nice!)
I will try your other streams shortly…been busy with other things. This morning I was running a Jazz playlist, and did some tweaking of the Jazz preset…man, what a nice sounding preset. I think I’m going to try the current setings with all different music and see how it goes.
As for server capacity, I am good at this point. I don’t really have a lot of listeners, so I am usually OK. I have to mention one thing while listening to your station the other night…you played a Prefab Sprout track…I was floored !! I thought I was the only person in the world who liked them….so hat’s off! We don’t have a lot of the same material on our streams, but I like a lot of what you play, so I am brodening my horizons. Thanks!! 😀

RipleeMemberstevenaj,
I’ve added your stream as a preset in my Roku Soundbridge, and it sounds great! Love the tunes!
I seems we have somewhat similar tastes…which is cool. 🙂I did reboot my machine last night to fix my KVM issue, and I’ve changed the playlist, so if ya get a chance, give it a shot!
RipleeMemberOK….I’ll leave it as is for now.
I know these kinds of things can be like finding a needle in a haystack, so I will remain patient.I am going to reboot the box so I can get my screen back and change the playlist…(I have KVM issues currently), but I’ll leave the version as is until I hear further.
Thanks again!
RipleeMemberstevenaj,
Thanks for your kind words….glad you like it. Actually, it’s Leif who deserves the credit for the sound!
I actually want to change the playlist, but I told Leif I wouldn’t touch anything as a test, so even though my KVM is messed up right now, and I can only fix it by powering off the system, I have refrained from doing so until I complete this test….which leads me to this conclusion so far:The problem has not come back since I did as Leif asked. I installed 90.69 over 90.81, which I beleive left the new pipeline in, and back rev’d the BL program. I hate to say this, but the problem might be with BL and not the pipeline. It’s been 6 days almost and so far no sign of the crackling.
I will not touch anything for a few more days, and then I guess the next step is to install the newest version of BL again and see what happens.Listening to http://83.170.80.31:8504 right now…and I hear the issue, although yours seems to be more of a "skipping" problem, whereas mine manifested itself as a distortion…or crackling sound..similar but not identical.
Good tunes stevenaj…playing Sade right now…hmmm…I think I should add some Sade too!! 😉Again….I plan to change the playlist soon…which will include a lot more tunes…much more variety.
Leif…. is there anything you’d like me to do before I try the newer version of BL again? I am pretty sure the problem would have occured by now previously…as much as I hate to say it. 🙁
RipleeMemberYou got it! I won’t touch anything and see what happens.
RipleeMemberOK…so far so good….I’ll certainly keep an ear on it and report in here as soon as there is anything to report !!
I will change the one setting you mention just to keep things equal…I do know that when I install the new vrsion it switches the output sampling rate to 48K. Is that correct? That certainly needed to be changed, as the distortions were immediately evident. Then after about 5 days, they came back.
If it does turn out to be a pipeline problem, how would I get the latest version of BL with the previous version of the pipeline, as I think the new version updates the pipeline without asking..(I think?) ❓RipleeMemberThis may not be what you were asking, as I forgot to grab a cap before re-installing 90.69 😕
Here is the current I/O page:RipleeMemberLeif,
Thanks for your quick reply! I will certainly do as you request, and reinstall the 90.69 version over this one tonight.
I tried to attach a screenshot of my I/O settings a while back, but I couldn’t seem to figure out how. I had a .bmp file. Is there a specific file type needed, and is it simply a file attachment?Riplee
