Yes, you can use it on the backup pc too.

LeifKeymasterI agree, there’s plenty of songs where there’s artifacts already in the master. However, this is not one of them. That particular section (just the first 10 seconds of the song or so) is particularly tough on traditional pre-emphasis clippers, like the ones you’ll find in 8500, Omnia 6, Vorsis AP2000 and DSPXtreme. 🙂

LeifKeymaster
Will that version allow me the same ability to have a ‘flat’ stereo output that’s preemphasis limited, or only composite?
It sure will. The processor always does pre-emphasis, and from there you can also select de-emphasis for the L/R output, regardless of the MPX output which always has pre-emph.
I never noticed the Kelly Clarkson "Because of You" artifact… Is it just coincidence that she also has a song called "Breakaway"?
Try the first few seconds (when she’s humming) on any digital processor set to competitive loudness. On any other processor, it will sound like she has barb-wire in her throat. No joke.
Coincidence, though 🙂.

LeifKeymasterBreakaway Audio Enhancer has no line-in, it processes only audio from your computer.
I’m planning a 5.1-capable pro version which will also have line in.

There’s no easy solution to this, which is why I kept mic processing out of Breakaway DJ completely.
The ultimate solution would be to run Breakaway Live on a separate machine, connected AFTER the mixer. That way, everything would be processed together, including the microphone.

January 18, 2010 at 5:09 am in reply to: Breakaway DJ – Device Does Not Support Requested Format #9726LeifKeymasterGSIF is similar to ASIO.
Breakaway’s ASIO subsystem actually supports outputting in both 16 and 32-bit integer format, depending on what the ASIO driver requests.

LeifKeymasterGORGEOUS! I so can’t wait.

January 18, 2010 at 4:10 am in reply to: Breakaway DJ – Device Does Not Support Requested Format #9724LeifKeymasterTwo reasons:
1 – The Breakaway core (a common building block of all Breakaway products except Breakaway RTA) did not support it. Breakaway uses 32-bit math, split as 16 bits for audio and 16 bits of headroom. However, it now has a mode where it can use 24 bits for audio and 8 bits of headroom (still +48dB), so this reason doesn’t exist any more.
2 – Simplicity vs Benefit: Generally, sound card drivers support 16-bit and not 24-bit, and the benefit of 24-bit is very small compared to the compatibility headache. Also, all Breakaway versions (even the $29 one) uses an advanced ultrasonic noise dithering algorithm for the output, which to me sounds perfectly clean even turning the volume down to -40dB.
I may do 24-bit support in the future though, but my to-do list spans volumes already, so please don’t hold your breath! I’d hate to lose a good customer 😉.
Best,
///LeifLeifKeymasterHowdy!
Just to try it out, I’ve downloaded the trial of the ‘audio enhancer’ version to test drive at home. This thing is so great that I’m going to tear up my prescription for Viagra!
Thank you! Maybe I should trademark the word "Eargasm" 😉.
This has an "FM mode". I have not checked it on a scope, but it sounds as if the signal is being bandwidth limited (30-15,000hz) as well as pre-emphasis limited. (even though the output remains ‘flat’)This would make it the equivalent of the custom de-emphasized output of my 8100A… Perfect for feeding my ‘hobby’ transmitter’s line inputs. Is this correct?
Absolutely correct! It also has parametric EQ to allow you to correct the frequency response, as hobby transmitters tend not to follow the correct pre-emphasis curve.
I like that you have an 8100A! Of all the hardware processors in existence, it’s the only one I can stand to listen to. It does a decent job even on extremely difficult cuts like the first few few seconds of "Kelly Clarkson – Because of you", which all current digital FM processors completely butcher. In fact, it sounds almost as clean analog as Breakaway. 😉
Also, right now I can only get it to work with on-board audio that’s loaded on the computer, playing either on Winamp, or Windows Media Player. If I send sound into the sound card from an external source, it just bypasses Breakaway. Is this a setting issue or do I need a separate sound card?
This is a limitation in the $29 version. This way I why I dare to include FM mode in the cheap version, without undercutting myself 🙂.
BBP ($199) and BBP ASIO ($299) do not have that limitation, and are still extremely inexpensive compared to hardware products.
BBP ASIO has a low latency mode which gives you mic-to-air delay of less than 20 milliseconds — quick enough to monitor off-air.
They both have many more controls than the $29 version — Stereo Enhancer, MPX Stereo Gen, Final Drive control etc etc.
None of the current versions have full control (that’s coming in hardware) but I may possibly break apart AGC and Multiband controls in the future.
Best regards,
///LeifLeifKeymasterIndeed, and Breakaway DJ comes with PEQ so that you can calibrate the speaker system from there, even if the mic won’t be calibrated. How often does a DJ really use the mic? 🙂

January 17, 2010 at 11:48 pm in reply to: Breakaway DJ – Device Does Not Support Requested Format #9721LeifKeymasterIt *could* be that the driver doesn’t support 16-bit output, but it would be the absolutely first time I have seen a sound card that doesn’t. Did you try 48000 Hz as well?
If the bit depth is the problem I could always add 24-bit output support. But, the big question is why ASIO causes such problems, it’s generally very stable. Do I remember correctly that you’re on Vista?
///Leif
LeifKeymasterSure, try this thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=820
///Leif
LeifKeymasterYes! Breakaway Live does that, and will do the job with very low latency — but it really needs a dedicated machine. However, for more permanent installations it’s a great alternative to other hardware boxes.

LeifKeymaster0.90.93 is W7 compatible, versions before 0.90.90 are not. (They work, but not with kernel streaming).
You can use the key you get from Njoy FM with 0.90.93, or any newer version!
